About me

Based in Helston, Cornwall, I founded Above the Tide in 2015. I enjoy capturing the beauty of the shoreline and coastal reflections of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly through photography and it was this passion that prompted me to set up my business. My images of rocks, reflections and flora and fauna are printed on a wide variety of materials - card, canvas, aluminium, glass, silk and velvet - and made into many different items including greeting cards, calendars, wall art and cushion covers. As well as working with my photographs, I always have to have a few art and craft projects on the go - mainly using my own designs which are often inspired by the sea and coastline. I love knitting, crochet and the ancient lace-making craft of tatting which I use for jewellery-making. I enjoy being creative and experimenting with different colours, threads and embellishments. Recently I have taken up pastels again and have added pet portraits to my portfolio. Needlecraft must be in my family’s genes – my great, great grandfather on my mother's side owned a lace factory in Nottingham and my grandmother was a skilled dressmaker. My mother loved knitting and stitching tapestries based on her own designs. On my father's side, my great, great grandfather established a glove factory which was passed down through three generations. Now these skills have been passed down further through the family to me and to my daughter and granddaughter, who invariably have a knitting, crochet or sewing project in hand.
